GONFLES/Vehicles - AIR
PIECE FOR 4 DANcers
Creation 2016 : International Art Festival SETOUCHI TRIENNALE 2016, AICHI TRIENNALE 2016
For this project I choose straightforward protocols for the choreography: dancers converse with each other in a choir. They bind without seeing each other, they are together always and alone sometimes in a constrained space, leading to a form of energy saving.
Here, the breath becomes a link, and the spiral is a specific support in space, for all, in the moving. Listening is at the centre of the dance work. The accuracy of the movement visually contrasts with the nonstandard forms presented here – I play with these extremes that unfold the habits of our look and of our thoughts.
AIR is built as a form made of the accumulations of scripted movements composed with the air and latex costumes or coming from individual or common decisions to move.
Latex structures answer immediately to the impulses of bodies by random resonances. The display of forms and images made possible by the trapped air is both surprising and funny.
The dancer becomes a real kaleidoscope of forms in movement, crossed by its own energy: he is multiplied and immoderate.
The choreography drags us in the enormous and nonstandard. It arouses our sense of tolerance through a change of our watchful eye – or not – toward this different and extraordinary Other.
The architecture of these new bodies draws a humanity defined by other images: this exhibited hypertrophy questions our visions of what’s human.
I choose a mixed casting with dancers with varied backgrounds (hiphop, contemporary dance) for propositions and energies to be combined: the Inflated swallow up our world gestures, recycle them in order to present something new.
